In June 2025, Smytec had the privilege of participating in the Public Security Exhibition (PSE) Madrid, an event coordinated by ADS Group in collaboration with the British Embassy in Spain. This important showcase brought together innovators in UK security and defence technology with senior Spanish law enforcement professionals, procurement authorities and government agencies. It was a valuable opportunity to engage in a truly bilateral dialogue centred around technological solutions to public safety challenges.
During the two-day event, Smytec focused on demonstrating BlindSite, our advanced non-contact forensic imaging tool and its potential to assist law enforcement agencies in evidence retrieval and documentation across varied environments. Our aim at events such as this is not only to introduce cutting-edge technology but also to foster mutual understanding and collaboration with regional stakeholders.
BlindSite’s versatility was well received, particularly its capacity to detect and visualise latent evidence, such as fingermarks and body fluids, on both porous and non-porous surfaces without requiring direct contact or enhancements. Delegates highlighted their interest in solutions that enhance evidence integrity while reducing disruption at crime scenes. In our discussions with police units and forensic practitioners, the emphasis was on how technology like BlindSite can integrate with current workflows, reduce laboratory backlogs and support more agile responses to increasingly complex investigations.
A particularly memorable moment occurred during the exhibition when Alex, CEO of Smytec, was approached by representatives from the Scientific Police of Madrid. They were interested (any maybe slightly sceptical) to see if Blindsite could retrieve a fingerprint from a mirror. We know that mirrors are notoriously difficult to capture as they produce a silhouette effect and doubling up of the ridges, which make them unusable. But Alex knew the capabilities of our tech and so the challenge was set!
Alex and members of the Scientific Police of Madrid set up their test scene in the restroom of the exhibition centre! Despite the difficulty of the task and much to the amazement of those who looked on, BlindSite performed exceptionally and Alex successfully retrieved multiple fingermarks from the mirror in perfect quality, contrast and focus, without any interference.
Word then quickly spread throughout the event which created a buzz and significantly increased footfall to our booth and led to promising discussions with attendees from multiple sectors.
Beyond product demonstrations, the event allowed Smytec to better understand how Spanish and EU-based agencies approach forensic procurement, the standards they adhere to, and their future needs. The feedback and insights are highly constructive for our R&D and product evolution, highlighting the current need for evidence-capture tools that balance precision, portability and interoperability.
Our participation in PSE Madrid aligned with our strategic commitment to becoming a global gamechanger across the forensic industry, driven by innovation and a strong focus on responsible practices, ensuring that our technology roadmap reflects real-world challenges and expectations. Smytec values these opportunities to engage face-to-face with professionals who share this goal, and we are especially grateful to ADS, the British Embassy, and all participants whose contributions made the event such a success.
